Wizard Cat - 2D Game Sprite
PROCESS BREAKDOWN
Character Concept Art
Color wise, I decided to combine primary colors for his clothes while utilizing neutral colors for the rest of his design. The neutral balances the bright colors. I included VFX concept art for the character's attacks as well. The shield design changed in the final animation, as I decided to make the shield look more elemental than rather than emphasize the cat theme. |
Sketch
The character's clothes, whiskers, and tail were animated on a separate layer after the body. This allowed me to focus how these more flowing parts of the character's design would move in reaction to the body's movement, in line with the principles of follow-through and overlapping action. I also added a line marking the ground so the character's footing would be consistent as he moved his foot. |

Final Animation
Finally, color was added and I compiled each animation together so that the cat could switch from its idle pose to any of the actions, much like in a video game whenever a player presses an input while the character is standing still. |
